Planning officers approve Ashby dental practice extension

Planning officers have approved a proposal to extend a dental practice in Ashby, Leicestershire.

North West Leicestershire District Council has given plans to extend Rotherholme Dental Practice the green light. The clinic is located in Tamworth Road.

The plans outline proposals to convert a first-floor flat into part of the dental practice. The plans also detail a replacement extension at the rear of the building and the removal of fire stairs. The building will have a new ramp to improve accessibility. Extending the practice will enable the applicant, Mr Athwal, to increase capacity and modernise some of the surgery’s facilities.

Despite the approval of planning officers, news of the development has not been welcomed by everyone. Some residents raised concerns over noise related to construction work and have asked for the premises to be soundproofed. Some neighbours also requested specific time limits on development work to minimise noise impact. Construction will take place between the hours of 8.30 am and 6 pm during weekdays.

The council has recommended that the local planning authority submit a noise insulation scheme in writing before work begins on the property.

It is hoped that the new and improved practice will improve access to dental services for local people and make it easier for patients with limited mobility to get into and out of the building.
