A dentist from Pinner, North West London, swapped the clinic for the kitchen recently to appear on BBC One’s Masterchef.

Rishi Nanavati appeared on the hit cooking show hosted by Greg Wallace and John Torode last week. After impressing during the heats, he reached the quarter finals but narrowly missed out on a place in the semi-final.

Rishi graduated from the University of Bristol in 2018. He has always been interested in dentistry, but he also has a passion for food, particularly vegan and vegetarian cuisine. Rishi set up an Instagram account @dish_by_rish over two years ago and the 26-year-old already has a substantial following.

Rishi said that his appearance on Masterchef was a dream come true. After impressing the judges, who described his coconut, lemongrass and chilli aloo Tikki as “bang on the money,” Rishi said that the experience was “surreal.” He was left speechless by the incredible feedback and is now even more determined to develop his social media content and continue to explore new recipes and put vegetarian food on the map.

Following his successful appearance on the show, Rishi has returned to the treatment room but has vowed to continue producing wonderful food and encouraging others to take an interest in vegetarian and vegan cooking.

Masterchef continues on BBC One with the next nine contestants fighting for a place in the semi-final from Wednesday 30th March.
