A dental team from Peterborough has put smiles on the faces of children from Chernobyl after hosting a free dental event.

Bupa Dental, which is based in Broadway, partnered up with Friends of Chernobyl Children 13 years ago, and the practice has been hosting children since. The team provides free dental treatment and takes the time to meet the kids, show them around and talk to them about brushing their teeth and eating well. The event is designed to be both beneficial for the children’s health and good fun.

Practice manager, Karen Bampkin, said that it’s incredibly sad that the impact of the 1986 Chernobyl disaster is still being felt and the team looks forward to meeting the children every year. There is very limited access to routine dental services in the area, and the practice takes great honour in playing host to visiting groups and providing them with essential dental care. This year’s trip marked the 13th visit, and as ever, it was a great success. The children got to access valuable dental treatment and they also had a great time meeting the team and taking part in fun activities.

Friends of Chernobyl group coordinator, Cecilia Hammond, thanked everyone at Bupa Dental for organising a visit and extended a huge thank you to everyone in the town. The children have been taken in with great warmth and affection, and they have been treated to a programme of activities that has brought many a smile.
