A dental team from Perth is preparing to head to Romania for a ten-day trip to help children living in deprived areas of the country.

Dentist, Miriam Fraser will be joined by dental nurses, Andrea Sturrock and Sandra Christie for the trip; the trio will set off for Romania on the 6th May. The team, from Broxden Dental Practice will be linking up with twelve others to help out with a project run by VisionRomania. The group, which will be lead by Margaret and Jim Leiper, will travel to Varmega and Huendoara.

The aim of the trip is to provide dental care and educate children about oral hygiene and oral health issues. The team will be visiting Casa Harului, translated as ‘House of Grace’, which was set up 15 years ago by a Romanian couple to provide respite care for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Sandra Christie said that the children they will be visiting live in conditions that are completed beyond the team’s own experiences and the respite break allows them to meet other children, have fun and enjoy proper meals and a comfortable, safe environment.

The Perth team has already raised £660 but they have a fundraising target of £1,500. On Friday, the practice is hosting a race night to raise money for the trip, which will take place at Chaplinz inPerth. The event is open to everyone and entrance is free; there will be a prize draw and it promises to be a fun night in aid of a really worthy cause.
