Patients Reassured Over Infection Control In Ayrshire

Patients registered with two dental practices in Ayrshire have been contacted by the local health board amid fears relating to poor standards of infection control.

NHS Ayrshire and Arran is in the process of writing to patients who are registered with the practices at Milbank Lane, Cummock and Mill O’Shields Road, Drongan, to inform them that an investigation into infection control procedures at the two surgeries, which are part of the same group, was carried out.

Health officials conducted an investigation into infection control at the practices ad found that the risk to the public was very low; following the investigation, the team decided that patients did not need to take any further action, but Dr Elvira Garcia said that it is important that patients know that it took place.

Dr Garcia, from NHS Ayrshire and Arran, said that the health board worked with local and national experts and the conclusion was that patients did not need to act because the risk was minimal.

The health board revealed that investigations at both surgeries found that infection control processes did not meet the “high standards expected of dental practices.”

The surgeries closed temporarily during the investigation and have made improvements to their infection control procedures to reduce risks in the future.
