Patients angry over operation delays

Patients in Warwickshire are angry after it was revealed that a number of operations will be delayed as a result of NHS spending cuts.

Patients who are waiting for hip and shoulder replacements, dental surgery and cataract surgery will now face a wait for treatment, as bosses at the Primary Care Trust announced that the delays were necessary to try and reduce the deficit.

The NHS Warwickshire trust is facing a potential debt of ten million pounds by April this year and bosses have taken the controversial decision to delay operations in order to try and balance the books.

The decision has angered patients, as well as local politicians and health professionals; Margaret Bell, former chair of the George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton, has called for a public face to face meeting between members of the public and health officials. Mrs Bell has been affected by the delays, as her husband’s hip operation has now been postponed.
