Over A Hundred Jobs Lost As UK’s Biggest Dental Lab Goes Into Administration

More than 100 workers were made redundant this week, as the UK’s largest dental laboratory went into administration. Staff members at Acodent in Little Lever were informed of the decision on Wednesday.

Mazars, an accountancy firm based in Leeds, has been handed control of the administration process.

One technician, who had worked at the laboratory for a decade, said that he was “fuming” about the situation; he explained that all the members of staff were asked to attend a meeting on Wednesday afternoon when they were informed that they were to be made redundant with immediate effect. The meeting lasted just 10 minutes and a total of 120 jobs have been lost. The employee, who asked not be to named, also said that workers had not received this month’s pay yet.

Another employee said that everything happened very quickly and one minute everyone was working away as normal and the next they were being herded out of the gates and told that they had lost their jobs.

The firm, which is run by Peter and Aileen Smith, has distribution contracts all over the UK and the European Union. Mrs Smith said that at this stage, there are very delicate negotiations underway and everyone should know more by next week. She added that the couple was devastated and had lost everything. The pair has been managing the firm for 25 years.
