Oregon dentist opens teens-only clinic

An Oregon dentist has opened America’s first dental practice which is aimed at teenagers.

Dr Dustin James, who opened Dentistry for Kids in Wilsonville in 2008, is now branching out with a second office called Dentistry for Teens.

He said that he decided to open this new office because he wants his young patients to feel comfortable and claimed that a lot of teenagers wouldn’t want to be around all the child-centric activities, like electric trains and puzzles, that are available at Dentistry for Kids.

Pediatric dentistry covers all young people up to the age of 18 but Dr James believes that once youngsters reach their teens that they don’t want to be associated with younger children and often opt to go to normal dentistry practices – so now he is trying to give them what they want.

Dentistry for Teens offers the same quality of care for the same price as at Dentistry for Kids but simply creates a relaxing environment more suited to teenagers.

The new practice has a 1950s diner theme and has a jukebox, a number of Apple computers and bar stools rather than seats.

A Pacman glass table and some flat-panel televisions have also been installed for the teens to enjoy and if you look up there are electric guitars hanging from the ceiling.

Dr James said that he wants the teens to feel like they are walking into a retail experience and not a dental waiting room.
