The Vietnamese Health Minister revealed that the oral health programme is functioning well, with 10 million school children receiving dental care across the country.

Nguyen Thi Kim Tien was speaking at the 6th Asian Conference for Oral Health Promotion for School Children in Hanoi. She said that the oral health programme had been implemented in several areas of the country and confirmed that a total of 10 million school children were benefiting from dental care.

Minister Tien said that the government was putting emphasis on oral healthcare for young children, especially preventative treatments, but admitted that there were challenges facing ministers. Currently, only 30 percent of districts have dental services in their hospitals and urgent care can be a problem as a result of this.

Researchers and professionals presented new methods and measures for oral healthcare for children at the conference, which is the first international event to be held in Vietnam. Over 400 people from 20 different countries attended the conference, which was entitled, ‘Oral Health for School Children: New Challenges and New Solutions.
