Oral health heroes set to be honoured at Leicester’s Smile Awards

Dental teams, teachers, volunteers and nursery and children’s centre workers who are working to boost oral health in Leicester are set to be honoured at the city’s Smile Awards.

The awards, which are run by Leicester City Council, recognise local heroes who are making a difference in the city. The council has asked residents to nominate people they know who have helped to improve dental health in the city. Nominees will be put forward to receive a Smile Award.

Ivan Browne, director of public health at the council, explained that the Smile Awards are designed to recognise the individuals and groups that are working to tackle dental health issues and spread smiles across the city.

Reducing rates of tooth decay is a priority for the council and there wouldn’t have been any progress without the hard work and dedication of dental teams, healthcare workers, teachers, nursery nurses and assistants, children’s centre workers and volunteers.

The Smile Awards will be hosted in partnership with Health Education England and the event is sponsored by GC UK and Leicestershire Local Dental Committee.

Councillor Vi Dempster, assistant city mayor for public health, said that she was “delighted” that the Smile Awards were taking place again this year and added that she was looking forward to celebrating all those who are helping to improve standards of oral health in the city and encourage positive lifestyle choices.

The awards provide a chance to celebrate those who are making strides, inspire others and highlight the benefits of working together to promote healthy smiles.
