A group of children from a nursery school in Melton paid their local dental practice a visit to learn about oral health and take part in role play scenarios as part of National Smile Month.

Children from River Bank Day Nursery visited High Street Dental Care in Melton to learn how to brush their teeth properly and have a look around the surgery as part of the British Dental Health Foundation’s annual National Smile Month campaign, which is designed to encourage people to take good care of their teeth and gums.

During their time at the surgery, the children chatted to the dental team, listened to stories and took part in role play scenarios about going to the dentist and they also had a tour of the practice. The dental team was on hand to answer questions and talk to children about healthy eating, teeth cleaning and going to the dentist.

The children were given a free goody bag at the end of their visit, which contained a toothbrush and some stickers.

Carol Cartwright, owner of River Bank Day Nursery, said that the kids were really excited to have a look around the dentist’s, as many of them have never been to the dentist before. She thanked everyone at High Street Dental Care for giving up their time and added that everyone made a special effort to make the trip fun and enjoyable for the children.

National Smile Month will run until the 20th June; practices all over the UK are celebrating and joining together to try and raise awareness of the importance of good oral health.
