Norwich dental surgery submits expansion plans

The owners of a dental surgery in Norwich have submitted expansion plans to the city council.

Patnam Elphick and Associates, which is located in Earlham Road, has already been given the green light for plans to extend the first floor to increase capacity. The development will add four new treatment rooms. The latest application outlines proposals to turn the garden of the property into additional parking to cope with the increased demand for services.

The practice has a substantial waiting list and additional parking will provide more spaces for patients once the clinic has been extended. The owners are also hoping to add two new full-time members of staff to the team.

When the owners submitted the initial application, the transport department at Norwich City Council asked for reassurances about parking if the plans were given the go ahead. Now that the first stage has been approved, the next step is to create more parking spaces. This could be done by using the existing garden space, which would be gravelled and turned into a small car park with an entry point in Beverley Road.

The consultation period will last until April 24th and the practice team is hoping to have a decision on the plans by April 27th.

Increasing capacity at the practice will make a significant difference in an area where access issues are deepening year by year. Many patients in Norwich and the surrounding towns and villages are unable to find a dentist without travelling or joining lengthy waiting lists.
