NHS dentistry is improving in Oxford

Health bosses in Oxfordshire have claimed that NHS dentistry in the region has really improved.

According to NHS chiefs more and more patients are gaining access to health service dentists thanks to a £2million investment it has made.

Nicky Wadely, NHS Oxfordshire’s deputy head of primary care services, said that dental services in the county were the best they had been for years and added that significant improvements had been made

In 2007, only a third of the county’s dental practices were taking new patients.

Only 27 clinics were taking on new patients in February 2007 and but now 42 practices are welcoming fresh faces and more work is being planned to help this number to grow.

The 278,710 patients being treated in Oxfordshire in 2007 but now 301,109 receive NHS dental care.

Banbury-resident Lucy Brown, 32, who used to drive to Derby for NHS dental treatment but has now finally found a place at a nearby surgery, said that Oxfordshire NHS really seemed to be making an effort to sort NHS dentistry out.
