NHS dental places to increase in Leeds

There are to be around 19,000 more NHS dental places available for the people of Leeds, courtesy of investment by NHS Leeds.
A total of 2.3 million is to be invested in NHS dentists within Leeds, in the hope of giving more people the chance to join an NHS dentist.
This is part of a three year plan to boost dental treatment in Leeds which started last year. It is believed the work will increase NHS dental places by an overall total of 33,000.
The introduction of a new dental contract in 2006 led to many dentists choosing to go private, leaving many patients in the lurch. NHS Leeds wishes to help those affected by such changes.
“We want to dispel the myth that there aren’t enough dental places in the city,” said Steve Laville, head of dental contracts for NHS Leeds.
“We are committed to securing high-quality NHS dental care for people in Leeds and want to make sure that those people who want access to a NHS dentist are able to do so.”
It is not only NHS dental places that are being improved in terms of capacity, but there is also £268,000 being spent to make sure dental practices are easily accessible for disabled patients.
Such improvement follows the introduction of Leeds Dental Advice Line three years ago, which has helped around 85,000 patients to find an NHS dentist in the area.
