A Thanet dental clinic is encouraging local people who are not registered with a dental practice to get in touch.

The Mydentist practice in Westgate-on-Sea is offering NHS places and encouraging local people to sign up. This encouragement is a bid to improve standards of oral health and quash beliefs that clinics are sterile, cold places. Practice manager Jasmine Cavanagh said that many people still think of dental surgeries as clinical places that smell of disinfectant, but this isn’t the case. She said patients can expect a friendly, familiar environment and a warm welcome from the dental team.

The practice is appealing for new patients in light of a recent publication. Survey results suggest that people who go to the dentist once a year have a 60 percent lower risk of developing tooth decay than those who don’t. The research, conducted by the British Dental Health Foundation, underlines the importance of seeing a dentist on a regular basis. The findings also suggest that 31 percent of British adults have signs of decay while 29 percent admit to suffering from dental pain.

The Mydentist practice is open from 8.30am until 5.30pm on weekdays. Anyone who wishes to register is advised to call in or telephone reception. Private dental services are also available.
