A veterinary centre near Newmarket has welcomed a specialist dentist to the team.

Gerhard Putter, a small animal dentist and oral surgery specialist, has joined the team at Dick White Referrals (DWR) Veterinary Specialists in Suffolk. Gerhard’s arrival will enable the centre to treat more pets with complex dental issues.

Gerhard moved to the UK from South Africa 20 years ago and he has extensive experience in working with animals great and small. Having previously been enlisted to work on cases involving bears, orangutans, lions and tigers, Gerhard’s new role will focus on smaller, domestic creatures. Before relocating to the area, he worked in practices in Essex and North Lincolnshire, specialising in dental and maxillofacial surgery.

During his fascinating career, Gerhard has worked with teams based at zoos and wildlife parks all over the world and he has been actively involved in treating animals rescued from horrific living conditions in countries including Armenia and Indonesia.

Speaking about his new role, Gerhard said that it was an exciting time to join DWR, as the business is expanding and has recently opened new, cutting-edge dental care facilities. Having previously worked on isolated cases with the DWR team, it seemed a natural fit when talks about a more permanent position commenced.

The development of a £15 million dentistry centre means that DWR is now one of the leading veterinary dental facilities in Europe.
