New Zealand police call for dental records to identify victim

Police in New Zealand have requested dental records after a person died when a campervan was caught up in flames in Canterbury.

The burning van was spotted by a passing motorist on Sunday morning and police were called to the scene. A post-mortem was carried out on Monday in Christchurch.

Police have not yet identified the body because it was severely burnt; it is hoped that dental records will help police to find out the identity of the victim. Police and fire safety officers have searched the wreckage of the van but say it is too early to determine whether the death was suspicious in any way. Information from the public has been gratefully received but anyone who has further information is urged to contact police as quickly as possible.
