New Toothbrush That Keeps Tabs On Your Brushing Launched In The USA

A new toothbrush, which keeps tabs on your brushing habits, has been developed by an American company.

The Beam toothbrush is the world’s first app-connected brush; the brush connects to your mobile phone wirelessly and keeps track of how long you brush your teeth for and your brushing motions. Parents may find the brush helpful for checking that their children brush their teeth properly and it can be a useful brush for people who struggle to brush for the recommended time.

Dentists advise patients to brush their teeth twice a day for at least 2 minutes each time; however, the makers of the Beam toothbrush claim that studies show that on average people only brush for 46 seconds. Using a timer increases the likelihood of brushing for the recommended time by 50 per cent.

The Beam CEO, Alex Frommeyer, said that the brush does not change the way you brush your teeth, but it does increase the chance of brushing for longer and making the brush strokes more effective; the brush is a manual brush, so the user must brush to activate the wireless connection. The timer starts when the brush reacts with the body’s bioelectricity and the brushing data is then transmitted to the individual’s phone and they can keep track of their brushing progress.

The Beam brush will be on sale next month with an RRP of $50.
