New Queensland Dental Centre Plans Delayed

Plans for a new combined dental and cancer centre in Queensland have been delayed due to flooding.

Plans to open a new $18 million cancer and dental care centre at Bundaberg Hospital have been delayed by another year after it was revealed that there had been flooding in the local area. The centre is due to be built on next to the hospital on Hope Street.

Originally, the centre was scheduled to open last year, but the opening date was pushed back due to red tape; now, there has been another delay because of flooding close to the proposed site.

Adrian Pennington, CEO of the Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service, confirmed that the opening date will be later than planned because the plans have had to be re-designed in light of flooding problems. The building will now stand a foot and a half higher than originally planned to reduce the risk of flood damage.

Mr Pennington now expects the facility to open at the end of 2014.
