New NHS Dental Surgery Opens in Banbury

A new NHS dental surgery has opened in Banbury. The new mydentist surgery, which is located in Market Place, was officially opened on Friday, 8th April by local school pupil Freya Mandorman. Queensway School student Freya entered a colouring competition to win the chance to cut the ribbon.

The new surgery, which is part of one of the UK’s largest chains of dental practices, will provide a combination of NHS and private dental services. The practice will focus predominantly on NHS dentistry but patients can also access additional private services including orthodontics and cosmetic dentistry.

Practice manager Sheika Datt is hoping to encourage new patients to register with the practice in the coming weeks. Sadly, figures suggest that around 50 percent of adults only visit a dentist when they have dental problems. The practice team is hoping to change this and encourage adult patients to keep up to date with routine examinations. The team will be working hard to promote local NHS services and get people thinking about ways they can improve their oral health.

The mydentist team is also eager to encourage parents to register their children. Around 30 percent of children in England didn’t see a dentist between 2012 and 2014, despite advice from dentists recommending check-ups every six months. Missing appointments and delaying seeing a dentist increases the risk of decay and oral infections. NHS dental care is free of charge for children. In addition to free check-ups, parents can also take advantage of free preventative treatments such as fluoride varnish and fissure sealant treatment for their children.
