New Emergency Dental System To Launch In West Yorkshire

Sample News Big

The emergency dental care system is set to change in West Yorkshire; health bosses have launched a consultation on the provision of urgent dental care and a decision will be made in the near future.

The proposals relate to a new system, which runs throughout West Yorkshire, rather than the current system, which runs in separate council and health trust areas.

Mike Edmundson, from the West Yorkshire Area Team, said that the establishment of a new “unified service” will provide benefits for patients; the main benefit would be that patients have the choice of services across the region, rather than being restricted to services within their local council or heart trust boundary.

Currently, five PCTs in the West Yorkshire area have separate services in place; this includes Leeds, Kirklees, Wakefield, Calderdale and Bradford.

The Kirklees out of hours service is provided by Local Care Direct, which runs from Huddersfield Royal Infirmary; some practices in the area also offer urgent appointments; at the moment it is unclear whether this will change from April next year.
