A new dental practice is set to open in a former motorcycle showroom in York.

The owners of Leeds-based business, Yorkshire Dental Suite, have purchased premises in Haleys Terrace. The unit was previously owned by Dave Wood, of Dave Wood Motorcycles. The store closed on Saturday 17th September after 20 years in business.

The owners of the Yorkshire Dental Suite submitted a planning application to the council to change the use of the premises. The application has been approved by planning officers at City of York Council and the retail unit will now become a state-of-the-art dental practice.

The new dental clinic will occupy the ground and first floors of the building. A new entrance will be created and there will be three treatment rooms as well as communal reception and waiting areas. A report by planning officers stated that the new dental practice “would provide a local amenity in a relatively sustainable area.”

It is not yet known when the new practice will open. Yorkshire Dental Suite already has a clinic in Leeds, which offers cosmetic dental services.

Dave Wood, 68, confirmed the sale of the premises to the dental provider and shared news of his new career path. Having run the motorcycle store for over 20 years, Dave will now turn his part-time hobby of making narrow gauge steam locomotives for the Blaenau Ffestiniog railway into a full-time job.
