A new NHS dental centre has opened its doors to the public in Dingwall, Scotland.

Inchvannie House Dental Surgery opened on Monday and it is hoped that the practice will improve access to NHS services for hundreds of people living in the Dingwall and Strathconon areas.

Dr Navan Aziz has taken on a four year lease and the new four surgery dental centre will secure long-term dental services in the area. The clinic was built on a site owned by NHS Highland and the project cost 1.3 million pounds.

Over the course of the next two months, Dr Aziz will be joined by three more dentists. This is one of the first examples of this kind of lease in Scotland so far and representatives from NHS Highland are delighted that the future of NHS dental services in the area has been secured.

Alex Fraser, dental service development manager from NHS Highland, said that the lease guarantees long-term access to first class dental services for the people of Dingwall and the surrounding areas. NHS provision is a requirement of the lease and dentists signing up to the lease must ensure that at least 80 percent of the practice’s income is generated from NHS dental services.

The new dental centre will make a huge difference to local people, as currently less than half of the population of Dingwall is registered with a dentist and there is a waiting list with more than 2000 names on it. The opening of the clinic will enable local people to visit a dentist on their doorstep.
