New Dental Device takes the Pain out of Injections

Sample News Big

A new dental device has been launched to eliminate the pain of injections.

Research shows that one in four people are scared of injections and for one in ten patients the fear is so great that they avoid going to see their dentist. However, a new device could spell the end of painful injections. The Vibraject is an inexpensive new piece of equipment, which has already been on sale for a while in the USA and has recently become available on the UK market.

The Vibraject attaches to a conventional syringe and works by sending a message to the brain which arrives before the message triggered by the painful prick of the needle, which means that the patient only registers the vibration because the brain cannot deal with the vibration and the pain signal.

Murray Hawkins, a dentist who uses the Vibraject, said that the device is a great addition to any dental surgery, given the number of patients who are worried or anxious about having injections.

The Vibraject costs £299 and experts have said that it could make a huge difference to the experience of going to the dentist for many dental patients. The thought of having an injection panics many patients and some are so anxious that they put off going to the dentist for years, risking their oral health. The Vibraject can help to relieve those fears and hopefully more patients will feel comfortable about going to the dentist.

This is for sure a good & welcome development in the practise of dentistry which I guess may take many years to come before it reaches Africa because of her status.
Meanwhile, with the little experience i have with patients here,I think they tend to be more anxious with a more cumbersome device even at this anyway,i think as long as d device is realy effective,a report of painless experienc from one patient to another will be beneficial. So this is nice to know.
