A new dental clinic has opened in Bangor.

The centre, which has been launched in partnership with the NHS and Bangor University, will play a key role in boosting NHS provision in the local area.

Bangor Dental Academy is part of a comprehensive plan to increase capacity in the region, as Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board looks to train and retain more NHS dentists and attract more dental professionals to Bangor and the surrounding area. Once the facility is fully-staffed, it will house eight surgeries, providing dental care for thousands of patients every year.

The clinic is owned by dentists, Ravi Singh and Darren King. They described the practice as “the culmination of a lot of hard work,” which started with conversations with the health board. The duo thanked the team at the board for their “vision and courage” and said that it was an “exciting” opportunity to work with the NHS and Bangor University to serve the local population and encourage more dentists to work in the area.

Assistant director for the North Wales Dental Service at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, Peter Greensmith, described the facility as “wonderful” and said that working with the “Welsh Government, Health Education and Improvement Wales, Cardiff Dental School and Bangor University means that we can explore further options to attract dental staff to the area.” The clinic provides an “innovative working environment,” which will enable dental professionals to “practice dentistry while upskilling and delivering specialist care in a community setting.”
