New Dental Clinic Finally Opens in Thurso

A long-awaited dental clinic has opened its doors to patients in Thurso.

The new £1.2 million centre has opened at the Dunbar Hospital and boasts four surgeries. The clinic will be run by Dr John Barry and will be committed to providing NHS dental care.

There are currently three dentists working at the practice and another is set to join the team in the near future. The practice is now up and running after several delays and patients who are currently on the waiting list in the Caithness area have been contacted and will be given priority. At the moment the list has 4833 names and the practice will have a capacity of 6,000 once the fourth dentist joins the centre.

Dr Barry has been working as a general dental practitioner in Caithness for the last 24 years and said that he was extremely pleased to be providing local people with NHS services. Dr Barry said that the team had undergone eight days of intensive training and was now looking forward to getting started and meeting new patients.

Patients who are interested in registering with the practice are advised to contact the practice rather than turning up at the centre.

Colin Punler, a board member of NHS Highland, said that access to dental services in Caithness has been a problem for a long time, so the opening of the new Thurso clinic will make a massive difference to local residents.
