New Dental Charges For Over 60’s Brought In On The Isle Of Man

New dental and prescription charges for over 60’s have been brought in on the Isle of Man.

Previously, all over 60’s were entitled to free prescriptions as well as free of charge dental treatment, but changes to the system mean that only those who are fully retired will now be eligible for free treatment.

David Anderson who is the Health Minister said that the changes make for a “fairer system” and added that there were exemption criteria in place for those on low incomes and vulnerable patients.

Changes to health charges also mean that children under 16 and children under 19 who are in full-time education will receive free dental treatment and medical prescriptions.

Mr Anderson also said that it was worth noting that charges on the Isle of Man are “heavily subsidised” and remain much lower than charges in England. A prescription on the Isle of Man will set you back £3.85 per article, as opposed to the £7.65 per item prescriptions cost in England. Dental fees are also slightly lower, ranging from £16.50 to £198, compared to £17.50 to £209 in England.
