A new dental centre in Bangor has received thousands of enquiries.

The Dental Academy team has fielded around 8,000 enquiries in just three weeks. Since opening, the practice has been inundated with calls and emails from local people wanting to register or find out more about NHS dental services.

The new dental clinic has opened to try to ease pressure on local services in North Wales, creating thousands of new NHS places. Once the facility is fully staffed, there will be eight surgeries at the site. The building will also house training facilities and conference rooms for dental professionals.

The project is a joint venture between the owners of the clinic, NHS health boards, Bangor University, Cardiff Dental School and the Welsh Government. The new facility is part of a wider-reaching programme to boost NHS capacity within the region. Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board assistant director for the North Wales Dental Service, Peter Greensmith, said that the clinic is not a “silver bullet” but stressed that it marks a major development in plans to improve access to local NHS dental services.

The clinic is owned by dentists, Darren King and Ravi Singh, who also operate practices across the North West of England. The duo said that it was an exciting time and added that the launch was the “culmination of a lot of hard work.”

Initially, the primary aim is to replace four dental practices, which have closed in Bangor and Menai Bridge, and provide better access for local people. The training facilities will open in early 2023 and by the middle of next year, community dental services will be operating from the third floor of the premises.

Colin Price was one of the first patients to visit the new site and described the experience as “great.”
