New Ammanford dental practice to open in September

A new dental practice will open in Ammanford in the autumn, representatives from the Hywel Dda University Health Board have confirmed.

The health board has confirmed that the new clinic will open in September but as yet, there is no further information. The new practice will restore local services for residents over a year after the closure of the NHS clinic in Margaret Street. The Margaret Street surgery shut in May 2022, leaving hundreds of people in Ammanford without an NHS dentist.
Discussions at the end of last year suggested that a new provider could be in place early in 2023, but in January, health minister Eluned Morgan indicated that a new practice would not open until later in the year. Now, there is confirmation that NHS services will resume in September.

Speaking at the Senedd recently, MS for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr, Adam Price, asked for an update from the health minister. He was informed that it was likely that the opening date would be in the early autumn. There were no guarantees that patients who were previously registered with the Margaret Street practice would be prioritised for appointments.
Mr Price has encouraged residents who were patients at the practice to make sure that they are registered with Hywel Dda University Health Board so that they can be added to a holding list. The list will be transferred to the practice when it opens. The board will be contacting patients who are on the holding list closer to the opening date to arrange appointments in chronological order. Representatives said that it could take up to 15 months to complete the process.

Anyone who wishes to join the holding list is encouraged to contact the board by calling 0300 303 8322 or emailing [email protected].
