Mydentist’s Norwich clinic closes earlier than planned

Mydentist has closed one of its Norwich city centre clinics earlier than planned.

The chain recently confirmed that its city centre practice in Upper Goat Lane would shut on December 31st, but the shutters have come down early and all appointments have been cancelled.

A mydentist employee confirmed that nobody is working at the practice and suggested that the proposed date outlined in the letter to patients had been brought forward. The closure will leave thousands of patients without an NHS dentist. Patients who had appointments booked between now and December will not be able to see a dentist at the practice, which will not reopen.

News of the planned closure came as a bitter blow to local people, with Norfolk already an underserved area suffering a severe dental access crisis.

The closure of the clinic was attributed to recruitment issues, which meant that mydentist was unable to fill vacancies. This is a widespread problem, which is affecting practices up and down the country. The British Dental Association suggests that around 3,000 dentists have left the NHS since the start of the pandemic, with many choosing to go private.

Some patients have already tried to get appointments at other mydentist clinics, but have been unsuccessful, according to local press reports.
