Mydentist confirms Dalton dental practice closure

Mydentist has confirmed the closure of its Dalton-in-Furness practice.

The business, which operates surgeries across the UK, will shut the Dalton practice permanently on April 21st.

In a letter sent to patients recently, representatives from mydentist said that the clinic would close due to recruitment issues and rising running costs. Costs have increased significantly in recent years and there is currently a national shortage of NHS dentists, which has made it impossible to fill vacancies.

The letter suggested that it had not been an easy decision but it was no longer sustainable to keep the practice open.

The practice will close for good on Friday April 21st and all appointments scheduled from April 22nd have been cancelled.

News of the impending closure of the Dalton surgery comes weeks after Bupa Dental Care announced that it was shutting or selling 85 practices across the UK because of dentist shortages and rising expenses.

Cumbria already has a shortage of NHS dental places and losing another dental practice will undoubtedly impact local patients. Many people in the region are having to travel outside of the county to see a dentist and there has been a rise in DIY dentistry across the UK since the pandemic.

Practices up and down the country have reported problems in recruiting dental professionals, especially NHS dentists. The situation is worse in rural and remote areas.
