A mum of two from Consett said that she is lucky to be alive after discovering that she had a brain tumour during a visit to Turkey for dental treatment.

Lisa Robinson, 44, travelled to Antalya to have a consultation before having dental implant treatment but was advised to go to hospital after becoming unwell at the Magic Smile Turkey dental clinic. Lisa was taken to Anadolu Hospital and underwent emergency tests. Doctors discovered that she had suffered a bleed on the brain and had a brain tumour.

Lisa was rushed into theatre for a 13-hour operation and spent four days recovering in intensive care before she was moved to a critical care unit. She is still in hospital in Turkey but has shocked doctors with how well she has recovered from the procedure. Speaking to reporters from the hospital, Lisa said that she knew something wasn’t right when she got to the dental clinic. She couldn’t balance or focus, and staff even asked her if she had been drinking. She was taken to hospital and had an MRI scan and a blood transfusion. She then underwent surgery.

Lisa said that she was lucky to be alive and thanked the doctors who are caring for her, describing them as “amazing.” Lisa’s family members have flown out to Turkey to be with her. Her sister, Sharon, said that she was only given a 25% chance of making it and the family was told to prepare for the worst.

Lisa is a mental health nurse and put headaches she experienced a couple of weeks before she travelled down to the stress of her job. Sharon said that it is a “miracle” that she pulled through and added that she must have a guardian angel looking down on her.

The family is now raising money to bring Lisa back home to continue her recovery. They are aiming to raise £50,000 and have so far, reached over £12,000.
