MRHA Warns Public Against Buying Dental Products Online

Sample News Big

The Medicine and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MRHA) has warned members of the public and dentists against buying dental products online after a number of fake products were seized at a business address in the West Midlands.

The MRHA seized more than 100 dental products, including light cured composite, gutta percha points, dental cleaning equipment and scaler tips, from an address in the West Midlands; none of the products were CE marked and they did not have any instructions for usage.

The MRHA launched an investigation after a complaint was received from somebody who had purchased a portable dental X-ray unit without CE marking off auction site Ebay. Subsequent tests revealed that one of the units for sale on the site was not safe for use.

In light of the recent discoveries, the MRHA has advised people against buying online and issued the following advice for checking the safety and authentication for medical and dental equipment; all products should be clearly marked with a CE mark and they should come in packaging with usage instructions or an advice leaflet. Products should also have unique identification codes.

The MRHA has advised anyone who thinks they may have come across counterfeit medical or dental equipment or products to contact them on 020 3080 7080 or visit the website.
