A Long Island mother has been charged for the manslaughter of her two-year-old daughter.

Reports suggest that Dishawna Montgomery had been misbehaving when supposed to be brushing her teeth so her mother Shawnta, from Roosevelt, hit her.

Nassau County police claimed that Dishawna died on Friday 12 February of a lacerated liver.

Seven-months pregnant Shawnta, 20, has been held on two counts of first-degree manslaughter. The penalty of each charge is 25 years behind bars.
