More and more British students have a desire to study dentistry.

According to research many dental schools are inundated with applications before the start of the academic year.

At The Peninsula Dental School, Devon, seven youngsters are currently competing for a place on one of its courses.

The school, which opened three years ago, says that it had 464 submissions for 64 positions this year, which is a 122 per cent rise on 2008 numbers.

Heads of the four-year course, which is run in centres in Plymouth and Exeter, have attributed its popularity to its first class rated qualifications and innovative teaching methods.
