More Than 2000 People Waiting for Dental Care on the Isle of Man

There are almost two and a half thousand people waiting for dental care on the Isle of Man, it has been revealed.

Health Minister, David Anderson, revealed that 2,411 people are on a waiting list at the House of Keys, after responding to a question from Zac Hall, a member of the Liberal Democrats.

Mr Anderson said that the number of people on the waiting list was fluctuating all the time, as a result of people moving practice and individuals transferring from NHS to private care. He added that there has been an average of 230 people joining the list per month over the course of the last three months and claimed that the list is considerably shorter than it was in 2008.

In the last year, 1,200 people have been allocated an NHS dental place, with a total of 4,500 for the last three years. The Health Minister added that his party was continuing to take steps to reduce the number of people waiting to join a practice and 400 places will be allocated over the course of the next two months.

Mr Anderson has met with dental professionals on the island to discuss measures to improve access to dental services and reduce rates of decay.
