More students applying to be dentists

New figures have suggested that more and more Irish students are looking for a career in dentistry.

The Central Applications Office (CAO) said that the number of students applying for dentistry degrees had increased significantly since 2009.

Last year around 1,100 applied for a place on a Level Eight (honours degree) dentistry course but that number increased by 12% in 2010 to almost 1,250.

Level Seven (standard degree) also saw an 8% growth from around 2,010 in 2009 to almost 2,175 in 2010.

Overall applications made to CAO increased by 4,210, a rise of 6.22%, between 2009 and 2010 to 71,843.
