Moranbah Dental Surgery to Close after Rent Increase

A dental practice in Moranbah, Queensland is set to close after the owner was unable to reach a reasonable rent agreement.

It has been confirmed that Central Highlands Dental Surgery will close on April 5th after dentist, Kim Dodds, said that she had failed to agree a suitable lease fee. Dr Dodds said that she had tried to discuss the agreement with the landlord but was unable to reach an agreement that was commercially viable.

Dr Dodds said that the changes to the contract were only brought to her attention at the end of January, leaving her no time to move the practice. She has sought legal advice and been told the term of the proposed agreement are “commercially unacceptable”.

Dr Dodds has worked at the practice for eight years and said that she is extremely sad that she has no option but to close the surgery and said that the decision is made even harder by the fact that the area is already underserved. She also added that it was unfortunate for both patients and staff, especially as many of the team members were working towards dental accreditations and qualifications.

Dr Dodds said that the situation was an example of the way the property market is going in the region, with prices increasing all the time and owners getting greedy and not thinking about the need for community services.

The practice will continue to operate as normal until April 5th.
