Mobile dental unit gives Rockingham residents something to smile about

A mobile dental unit will visit Rockingham Housing Society to provide dental care for local residents.

The Friendly Neighbourhood Dental Van is set to visit the area on Tuesday and Wednesday and residents are invited to book appointments.

The mobile unit started visiting Rockingham in 2002 after local dentist, Dr Gregory Abrams, realised that children in the area were not able to access local dental services. The unit was set up to enable residents to access dental care; the van was primarily used to target children but patients of all ages were able to make appointments.

Programme administrator, Dr Daryl Smith, said that the team were looking forward to going back to Rockingham to continue the work of Dr Abrams and help children in the surrounding area.

The van offers reduced rate dental care for children and adults; for many people, accessing affordable care is very difficult and they are forced to pay high prices or go without the treatment they need.
