Milnsbridge dentist, John Shaw, is set to retire after 36 years of service. Mr Shaw has treated hundreds of patients in the Colne Valley and will be sadly missed by patients and colleagues alike.

John has been at Shaw and Associates at Market Street, Milnsbridge, for 36 years, after taking over the practice in 1977; he has 25,000 patients on the books including a family that travels all the way from the Canary Islands for their dental care. John will hand over the practice to his daughter, Eleanor and her husband, Giles.

John is also the official dentist for Huddersfield Football Club and although he will be sad to leave the practice behind, he feels it is the right time to retire. John will officially retire on Thursday and he is confident that his daughter and son-in-law will do an excellent job running the practice. John said that he will miss his patients, many of whom he has been seeing for several years, but after 36 years at the surgery it is time for him to hang up his boots and let the next generation take over.

John said that his finest achievement is working with families to improve standards of oral health care; over the course of his career, he has seen incredible changes in the world of dentistry and dental health has improved significantly.

The practice now has six dentists and John is happy to hand over control to his daughter, Eleanor, who qualified four years ago. He is now looking forward to spending more time with his family and visiting their home in Spain. He also hopes to improve his Spanish.
