The players from Middlesbrough FC have plenty to smile about after signing up to a local dental scheme. The club has officially formed a 12-month partnership with Queensway Dental Clinic.

As part of the scheme, dentists, nurses and dental hygienists from the Billingham clinic will pay regular visits to players at their Rockcliffe Hall training ground. All players will have the chance to attend regular screenings and routine checks, as well as receiving further treatment if required.

Queensway Dental partner, Dr Ian Lane, said that he was very proud to be working with the club in a bid to improve the oral health of the players and to raise awareness of the importance of good oral health in the North East. Dr Lane also added that he was very pleased to see Middlesbrough FC taking “a proactive approach” to the oral health of its players. Recently, research highlighted the prevalence of dental issues among footballers, and it’s good to see clubs taking steps to tackle this problem.

The practice will work with the entire club, including the youth teams and development squads, and it hopes to spread the message that good oral health is important for everyone. After being relegated from the top tier last year, Middlesbrough’s players are gearing up for a long, tough season in the Championship, but at least they’ll be ready and raring to go with a smile on their faces.
