Medical and dental fees frozen in Bangalore

Medical and dental students in Bangalore are breathing a sigh of relief after it was confirmed that fees will be frozen for the next academic year.

Medical education minister, S.A Ramadass, announced that fees will remain the same at a meeting on Monday. He also confirmed that the ratio of state to private seats at medical and dental colleges will change slightly; the ratio for medical schools will be 40:60 government to management and the ratio for dental colleges will be 20:80 government to private. The minister confirmed that a deal will be signed to confirm the fee freeze on Wednesday.

The government share of dental seats has decreased, after they failed to fill their quota of 35 percent last year; the government filled 211 out of 798 seats last year.

Fees for private seats are considerably higher than government seats; last year, the fees for medical school were 16,700 rupees for government seats and 42,700 rupees for private seats and fees for dental college were 14,400 rupees for government seats and 32,500 rupees for private seats.
