Peter Young, a Meatloaf tribute act, has vowed to sing again after being diagnosed with cancer.

Peter, who lives in Blackpool, had been for a consultation with a view to getting dental implants when his dentist found a lump in the roof of his mouth. Further tests confirmed that Peter had cancer.

A passionate performer, Peter recently shared the news of his diagnosis on Facebook, confirming that he would be taking a break from the stage to undergo treatment. From November 21st, Peter will be starting radiotherapy and undergoing reconstructive surgery. He will be out of action for a “few months” but hopes to be able to sing again when he celebrates his 66th birthday in January.

Talking about the diagnosis, Peter said that he was “devastated” but added that he was optimistic about the prognosis, especially after speaking with his surgeon, Dr George Mikosi. He had been worried that he may never be able to sing again and would have to give up the tribute act that he loves so much, but Dr Mikosi reassured him. There is every chance that Peter will make it back to the stage and that he’ll be able to sing at his party in January. He is aiming to start shows again in March but realises that surgery on his upper palate could change his voice.

Peter is facing the months ahead with “determination and positivity” and said that he “won’t allow negative thoughts.” His final gig before treatment will be in November.
