Matlock dental practice gives Chernobyl children something to smile about

Sample News Big

Members of staff at a dental practice in Matlock took time out from their normal schedules to care for children affected by the Chernobyl disaster last week.

Staff at Holt House Dental Practice have been helping children for the last three years by providing dental services at their Matlock surgery; many of the children have never seen a dentist before.

Lisa Eaton, manager of the practice, said that the dental team provides as much treatment as possible during the day and all the children go home with a toothbrush and some toothpaste. Many of the children are nervous because they have never been to a dentist before, but members of staff help to make them feel comfortable and relaxed and the children realise that the treatment will help them in the long-term.

The children are aged between seven and fifteen years old and the adults travelling with them are also invited to see a dentist for a free check-up.

The trip is organised by Chernobyl Children’s Life Line, which is devoted to helping children who were affected by the Chernobyl disaster in 1986. Children are invited to travel to the UK and they stay with families in the Chesterfield area. As well as a trip to the dentist, children also embark upon a number of activities, including visits to Chatsworth and Alton Towers.
