Market Drayton set for new dental practice

Market Drayton is set to get a new dental practice.

Shropshire Council has approved plans to change the use of Highbury House in Great Hales Street. The building was previously occupied by charity, Musicland, and had been earmarked for an HMO before the application was withdrawn in 2022.

The premises are currently vacant but work on the new dental clinic, which is run by Bhandal Dental Practices, is set to begin soon. The company already operates practices in the West Midlands and identified the site as a perfect location for a new surgery. The practice will boost local NHS capacity at a time when places are in short supply.

A planning statement approving the application confirmed that a new dental practice would provide a valuable local public service, which is in-demand in the area. There will be sufficient parking available with the addition of four extra spaces and the renovation work has been planned sensitively in keeping with the style and age of the building. The location of the practice, which is on the periphery of the town centre, will make it easy for patients to access the clinic and make use of other local parking facilities.

Further information about the services available at the new practice will be released in due course. Bhandal Dental Practices has confirmed that opening the new branch in Market Drayton will create four part-time and eight full-time jobs.
