Manchester Residents Risking Their Health for a Lively Social Life

Research has revealed that Manchester residents are sacrificing their health in order to keep up a busy social life.

The Sovereign Health Care study revealed that 94 percent of Mancunians revealed that they would rather spend money on going out than going to the dentist and 75 percent said that they were putting off health care services in order to save money this year.

The survey also showed that 33 percent of respondents were willing to postpone appointments rather than going without a night out.

Russ Piper, chief executive of Sovereign Health Care, said the neglecting health in the short-term increases the risk of long-term, complex problems, which are much more expensive to treat.

The study also revealed that hard economic times are having an effect on the way people shop, with more people turning to cheaper, processed foods instead of fresh fruit and vegetables, which tend to be more expensive.

The recession has also taken its toll on mental health, with 74 percent of people worried about household costs and being able to afford to live comfortably.
