A Florida man who used dental floss and glue to try and seal a wound on his dog has been charged.

William Ralph Jones, Oakland Park, Fort Lauderdale, killed his dog by performing ‘surgery’ on her after he had knocked her out with chloroform.

He has been charged with two counts of animal cruelty to a dog he was caring for Zoe, a two-year-old mongrel.

Owner Danielle Vecchio, who had left Zoe with her friend’s father Jones, 55, because she had moved into a home which prohibited pets, called what Jones had done ‘horrible’ and said that they had only called her after the dog had died.

The dog repeatedly ran away from Jones’s yard and suffered a three-inch cut to her stomach during her most recent attempt on 12 January 2010.

Jones initially tried to seal the gash with super glue but Zoe’s wound reopened a day later.

He then instructed his flat mate 40-year-old Charles Haire to give Zoe a muscle relaxant so he could perform surgery on her on his coffee table.

According to police reports, Jones then attempted to sew-up the gash with dental floss but Zoe kept yelping with pain.

He threatened to stab her with a pair of scissors when she wouldn’t calm down and instructed Haire and his daughter Ayse, 26, to restrain the dog.

He then placed chloroform on her muzzle to knock her unconscious but she never awoke.
