A man who was involved in a drunken attack needed dental treatment costing £10,000.

Nathan Cross was walking through the centre of Newmarket with Scott Claydon when they were attacked by a group of three drunken men. One of the men, Jameson Baldwin, attacked Mr Cross, knocking three of his teeth out, punching him repeatedly and knocking him to the ground. My Claydon was hit on the back of the head but was not seriously injured.

Baldwin, a 20 year old apprentice electrician, had been drinking heavily prior to the attack; he handed himself into police at Newmarket police station the day after the attack and gave police a letter of apology to pass onto Mr Cross.

Baldwin appeared at Ipswich Crown Court on Tuesday; he was charged with assault and given an eight month prison sentence, which was suspended for a year. He was also ordered to pay Mr Cross £1,300, complete 180 hours of unpaid, community work and adhere to a curfew between 8pm and 6am on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The judge said that Baldwin’s remorse for the attack had saved him from an immediate custodial sentence.
