Two men knocked a partygoer’s tooth out when they mistakenly believed he had attacked their friend.
Simon Billington was beaten unconscious by the two thugs in Bridge Street, Northampton, who believed he had attacked their friend in a local nightclub.
Kamal Hussain, 26, was jailed for 13 months by Northampton Crown Court on Thursday 12 November 2009 after he pleaded guilty to the assault.
His accomplice, Amardeep Masih, 25, got away with a fine £350 fine for his role in attack and an additional £250 fine for costs.
Prosecuting counsel, David Lee, said Mr Billington was partying at Crush nightclub on 23 September 2008, when he saw his friend being involved in a disturbance.
Mr Billington’s friend ran off down Bridge Street, so he followed but lost sight of him. Hussain then confronted him, asking him if he was looking for “the white boy”.
After admitting he was, Mr Billington was punched in the face about 10 times by the men and kicked on the ground by Hussain. Local CCTV cameras recorded the incident.
The attack ended when a passing motorist intervened but Mr Billington lost a tooth, a large amount of blood and suffered a black eye.
Mr Lee said that it had been suggested that there was an incident within the nightclub and someone was hurt.
He explained that the defendants believed Mr Billington was involved in the incident. But in reality he was not involved.
