Ludlow man encourages cancer sufferers to attend local health event after discovering a lump in his neck during dental treatment

A Ludlow man is encouraging cancer sufferers to attend a local health and wellbeing event to take advantage of help and support initiatives. Dominic Commane, 50, was diagnosed with cancer after finding a lump while undergoing a course of dental treatment.

Mr Commane discovered a lump in his neck in 2018 while he was having dental treatment. In a matter of weeks, he started chemotherapy, embarking on a six-week course of treatment at Hereford County Hospital.

A stained glass craftsman by trade, Mr Commane is now urging others who are going through treatment and those who have had treatment in the past to attend a health and wellbeing event, which is being organised by Wye Valley Health Trust in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support.

Mr Commane said that everything happened very quickly when he found the lump in his neck and although he was very grateful to receive radiotherapy and chemotherapy promptly, he wasn’t prepared for the extreme tiredness and the difficulty adapting his routine and fitting in work and trying to recover at the same time. The health and wellbeing event offers an opportunity for those who have cancer to seek advice and gain access to support. It’s also a chance to meet people in the same boat and to forge friendships with others who know what it is like to go through treatment.

The event will take place on Tuesday September 10th at Three Counties Hotel, Hereford.
